DIRECTOR’S STATEMENT
"Follower" emerged as a class assignment under the guidance of my film professor, Tal Lazar. His invaluable teachings ignited a desire within me to embark on a more ambitious film than any I had undertaken before. Notably, this project introduced a multitude of diverse locations, thereby imparting crucial lessons on the art of scene pacing. One standout aspect was an intense action sequence involving a hammer and knife, which initially raised concerns with my professor. In response, I meticulously crafted a visual storyboard to reassure him of my vision and intentions, eventually earning his approval.
This film draws loose inspiration from John Carpenter's iconic masterpiece, "Halloween," a personal favorite of mine in the realm of motion pictures. Dean Cundy, the Director of Photography for "Halloween," remarked in the audio commentary on the film about the grandeur achieved through the 2:35:1 aspect ratio—a sentiment I wholeheartedly share. While this aspect ratio may not be my favorite, I deliberately embraced it for this project and chose to do an aspect ratio shift to a full 1:85:1, aiming to Christopher Nolan's deliberate use of aspect ratios in switching aspect ratios in films such as "The Dark Knight," and “Oppenheimer”. Nolan often uses these wider aspect ratios during set piece action moments, as did I. My decision here was driven by a commitment to storytelling and visual impact.
