DIRECTOR’S STATEMENT
The Meantime was made in the summer of 2020. At this point, I was already accepted into the FILM program at CCNY. There was a summer film shoot opportunity email that I received from the program director in which students could receive a grant for winning a contest for shooting a film on the phone. This project is also the first time I worked with actual actors, Hawa Kamara and Rayna Elaine. In fact, Hawa’s the first person who I’ve cast from Backstage. In addition, this film’s pre-production phase included my first table read. Though the project was meant to be shot on a phone, I wanted to ensure I could still get the highest quality possible so I made two versions of the film. One was shot on my Canon m50 and the other was shot on my Pixel 5. The film is also my first non silent short film. It was the first time I had to deal with audio syncing and the annoyance of wind ruffling on a large scale. It was also the first time I shot a conversation between two characters in a major way. This project was a tremendous learning experience and I am thankful for those involved with it’s creation.
