DIRECTOR’S STATEMENT
The application process for Film at CCNY had a maximum of 10 minutes to content that we could summit. After completing Men Are Still Good and realizing I had 5 minutes left of content that could be used to enter the program, I thought to myself, why not one more? The film was intentionally made in black and white and composed to be in the 1:33:1 aspect ratio, an aspect ratio I came to adore after watching Zack Snyder’s Justice League in March of that year. The film had a profound impact on me and led me to want to try to do something that was in the most basic form, conceptually similar. In an earlier cut of the film, I included chapters that synchronized the journey of Darlene from hesitancy to resilience, but felt it was a bit too much for something this small scale. The idea of chapters was later used for my CCNY BFA Thesis Film “SALVATION”.
